Staff Members Receive Community Award

The Bucks County Schools Intermediate Unit recently awarded two of our Managers with Caring Community Awards! Care & Share staff have been privileged to work alongside some great students and support persons from the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) . The staff persons below have been presented the "Caring Community Award". Each recipient has made an extraordinary contribution to BCIU program which ultimately benefited the students served by the various BCIU program.

In 2011 the following persons were awarded; their photo’s are on the right

Jill, (far right) is the Furniture Shoppe Manager.  Marian shared the following, “This school year our students have a new placement one day a week in the furniture department. The Furniture Manager, and her team willingly accepted the challenge and accommodations to have a work area for the students. Jill and her staff set out weekly organized tasks and work areas.  The students now have a work table area with daily tasks. They work hard to complete the tasks of the day. Many challenging students have entered the doors of Care and Share over the years and each and every day we are “Thanked” for being a part of the volunteer team and the dedication that our organization, BCIU and Care and Share have for the success the work study students have in the community.”

Sue, (far right) is the Volunteer Manager.  Marian shared the following, "Our working relationship with Care and Share Thrift Shoppes has evolved positively for our transition students in the past 5 years. We started out 2 days a week in the clothing shoppe with one task in the shoe department. As the years continue, our students come to the training site and are well received for all their hard work and it became apparent that it was a good working relationship for our BCIU students and Care & Share Thrift Shoppes.

We now volunteer, 5 days a week in three different shoppes, Clothing, Variety and Furniture Shoppe. Volunteer Manager, Sue Miller, has arranged many of the new placements for the work-study students. Every 13 weeks, I arrive in her office with new volunteer names and applications. Sue says, “Ok Marian”. I would like to commend, Sue Miller on all her hard work with arranging these placements. Thank you Sue Miller." 

In 2009 the following persons were honored:

Jo Anne, (far left), is the Variety Workroom Manager and has been instrumental this year with a student who volunteers one day a week. Jo Anne understands the student's limitations and provides a positive work environment where she has been allowed to grow into a valued volunteer.

Jude, (center), is the Clothing Workroom Manager and has worked closely with our students to build their confidences and make them feel important while volunteering. She greets each student personally and is always very accommodating to the work-study schedule and to the new students who rotate every 9 weeks through the training program.

In both photographs is Marian Patro who nominated all of the staff persons for this award.  The Care & Share has greatly benefited from Marian, the students and the rest of the support team from the BCIU.  Thank you BCIU!
